Britney Spears explains why her cringing Carpool Karaoke made for such awkward viewing

Hmm, was it a 'Toxic' experience for her?

We love Britney and we love Carpool Karaoke, so the marriage of the two should have been pop heaven, right?

Not exactly.

Let’s be honest: Britney’s much-anticipated musical spin with James Corden didn’t exactly deliver.

She didn’t really get into the spirit of it, and didn’t even seem to sing a lot of the time. In fact, she pretty much mimed most of it. Corden carried the songs while she just danced along and throws in one of the lines every now and then.

She even seemed to have forgotten the lyrics to her song ‘Womaniser’ at one point.

For the rendition of ‘Toxic’, Britney wasn’t even trying to disguise the fact she was miming while Corden belted out the tune.

Overall, it made for pretty awkward viewing – a review that even Britney herself has now said is a fair and accurate summation of the experience.

In an interview with a New York radio show called ‘Cubby and Carolina In The Morning’, Britney tried to keep things light as she said of her Carpool Karaoke slot:

“It was a little awkward, like driving by grocery stores and seeing people walk by, and there’s 18 cameras in front of us. I’m like, ‘This is just so awkward, it’s so weird’.”

She said that shooting the segment was “really fun”, and that Corden was “just so incredibly sweet”, but Britney seemed to be a bit irked about the song choices pushed on her for the viral clip.

“He was in control of it,” she explained. “I got onto him and said, ‘I don’t want to hear that song again’,” Britney told the radio hots, adding that she’s tired of singing ‘…Baby One More Time’ and ‘(Oops) I Did It Again’.

“Oh my god, he kept playing them he put a damn wig on for it,” she said. “But I went along with it.”

Awk.Ward.
