Only David Bowie could write his own eulogy and package it into the beautiful Blackstar

David Bowie released his 25th album Blackstar last Friday, and how treasured and poignant the record has become.

Little did we know that when he penned it he knew he was dying, little did we know he’d be gone from the world three days after releasing it on his 69th birthday.

Pioneering and courageous, only Bowie could use his death as an artistic expression, leaving the world a beautiful parting gift.

Only his family and closest friends knew his life would end after the record was released.

Iconic until the end, his video to Lazarus is now viewed through different eyes.

His music was wallpaper to so many people’s lives, and like millions of other families it means so much to mine. After hearing the news, my dad called me in tears to tell me, ‘it’s the end of an era’ and ‘my youth has evaporated’.

Even though it feels as if the world has chinked slightly out of place, we’re grateful we had him at all.
