Now that he’s in good health and on the mend, we’re delighted to see that Kevin Smith is going back to his most famous role.
After appearing in Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma and Chasing Amy, our two favourite stoners got their own standalone film with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in ’01 and it has become something of a cult-classic.
A jewellery heist, Hollywood remakes, the C.L.I.T, an abducted monkey, the Skywalkers (Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher both had cameos), and Good Will Hunting II: Hunting Season, all featured in Kevin Smith’s film and as reported previously, he’s going back to the View Askewniverse.
During a recent Q&A session, the director of Red State and Tusk gave an update on his future schedule and he said that “We’re doing a sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and it’s called Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.”
Smith adds: “It’s us, it’s me and Jay so it’s not really strictly a reboot in the way that people think of a reboot. If you remember Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back it was a movie in which Jay and Silent Bob found out Hollywood was making a movie about them so they went cross country to Hollywood to stop that from happening.”
With regards to the plot, Smith said that the new film will poke fun at the original while breaking new ground.
“Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is completely fucking different. In Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Jay and Silent Bob find out that Hollywood is making a reboot of that old movie that they had made about them, and they have to go cross the country to Hollywood to stop it all over again. it’s literally the same fucking movie all over again. It’s a movie that makes fun of sequels and remakes and reboots while being all three at the same time,” he said.
In the original Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, the lovable stoners were joined by Shannon Elizabeth, Ali Larter, Eliza Dushku and Smith’s own wife, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, on their cross country adventure and it appears that there’s going to be a strong female presence in the reboot.
“We have a completely different script, but I used the script of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back to build the script to Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. So there’ a van in it with three girls in it,” he adds.
