The idea seems really good

The idea seems really good

When Jason Bourne was plucked from the Mediterranean Sea, film fans had no idea that they were about to embark upon one of the most exhilarating, original and action-packed stories in recent memory.

Aside from the misfire that was The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, Matt Damon’s rogue spy has thrilled audiences over the course of four films. We all have our favourite set pieces, stunts and scraps, but while Bourne/David Webb’s story may have run its course, it appears that there’s still plenty of shady covert missions, renegade spies and globetrotting adventures to be had.

Variety are reporting that USA Network have ordered a pilot for a new show that’s based on the Treadstone programme.

As fans of the Bourne franchise will know, Treadstone was a top-secret black ops program that the CIA ran. They recruited U.S. Service members and turned them into superhuman assassins that were highly-trained weapons. After Jason Bourne went rogue and exposed the corruption and wrongdoings in Trreadstone, the programme was replaced by the equally-sinister Operation Blackbriar.

Variety have said that the new show will “explore the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone, a covert operation that uses behaviour modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins. The series follows new sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions.”

The creator of Heroes,  Tim Kring, will be the writer and executive producer of this new TV show and to be honest, it has potential.

Like many people, we absolutely love the Bourne films but this approach is clever because it allows the creators to acknowledge Bourne’s existence while switching the focus to some of the supporting characters in the saga. It’s fair to assume that the likes of Nicky Parsons (Julia Styles), Ward Abbott (Brian Cox), Alexander Conklin (Chris Cooper), Doctor Albert Hirsch (Albert Finney) and even Richard Webb (Bourne’s father) will feature.

In terms of the Treadstone recruits, there’s The Professor (Clive Owen’s character), Castel (the guy Bourne had that epic fight with in Paris) and much more.

At present, there’s no news regarding casting but Ramin Bahrani is attached to direct the pilot.

We already know what they should use as the theme song.
