It all makes sense now.

After the Oscars, all everyone could talk about was Nicole Kidman's weird clapping. She was caught on camera clapping in a very odd way. People likened her to a seal or the Grinch because she was just using the palm of her hands. https://twitter.com/MichaelLopriore/status/836049967399731201 She has finally revealed why she was clapping that way, telling KIIS FM that she was wearing a very large ring at the time that she didn't want to damage. She said:
“It was really awkward. I was like, ‘Gosh, I want to clap, I don’t want to not be clapping,’ which would be worse, right?
‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’ I’m clapping, but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own, so it was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it."
