New Netflix feature is perfect if you no longer want to share an account with an ex

This latest Netflix innovation is being rolled out worldwide starting this week.

Breakups are always tough, there is no doubt about that. Yet, recent developments in technology have made them even more awkward. Let's say for instance you've been mooching off your partner's streaming service and they decide to end your relationship. What then? Sure, you could fork out the money for your own account. But what happens to your list of movies and shows that you intend to watch one day that you spent hours perfectly curating? Or, the personalised recommendations you get from the streaming service based on your viewing habits? Will they all just be lost like tears in the rain? Well, not on Netflix thanks to its latest development that has begun being rolled out to all of its members around the world starting this week. Titled Profile Transfer, the newly-launched, much-requested feature lets a person with a profile on someone else's account transfer it over when they start their own membership for whatever reason. This enables the person making the change to keep their personalised recommendations, viewing history, Netflix list, saved games and other settings. "People move. Families grow. Relationships end. But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same," Netflix Product Manager Timi Kosztin said in a statement. "No matter what’s going on, let your Netflix profile be a constant in a life full of changes so you can sit back, relax and continue watching right from where you left off." According to the streaming service, people will be notified by email as soon as Profile Transfer becomes available on their accounts. "To transfer a profile, go to the 'Transfer Profile' option when you hover over your profile icon in the dropdown menu on the homepage - then simply follow the instructions," Kosztin explained. "You can always turn off Profile Transfer in your account settings at any time." The new innovation comes just less than a week after Netflix announced it will be launching its lower-priced ad-supported subscription plan in 12 countries next month. Related links:
