Netflix viewers calling hilarious new teen movie the sequel to Superbad

This is the closest we’ll get to a sequel

A new film coming to Netflix this year has been labelled as the sequel to ‘Superbad’.

The new original teen comedy ‘Incoming’ written and directed by Dave and John Chernin, follows friends Benjamin (Mason Thames), Connor (Raphael Alejandro), Eddie (Ramon Reed), and Koosh (Bardia Seiri), who are about to enter high school.

With that comes the various struggles and social pressures associated with starting high school.

When Koosh’s older brother throws a high school party at their house, the four friends attend sparking a series of chaotic events at the party, all the while Benj does his best to get closer to his crush.

The premise of ‘Incoming’ isn’t anything original and many are saying it’s the closest there will ever be to a ‘Superbad’ sequel.

â€˜Superbad’, written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, was released in 2007 and depicted the friendship of high school seniors Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera).

Before the pair graduate, they want to have a party and have sex, so along with their friend Fogell, they plan to attend a party at the house of Seth’s crush Jules.

Fogell bonds with the police officers who could have arrested him for using a fake ID, Seth and Evan crash another party and their moves on their crushes don’t go according to plan.

The film was a critical and commercial success and is widely regarded as one of the best comedies and teen movies of the 2000s and one of the best high school films of all time.

The two films’ themes strike a similar resemblance leaving many to consider it as a sequel that never happened or an updated version of the original film.

Teen comedies, unlike other genres, have kept their relevance and Netflix has its own catalogue of licensed and original films in the category.

‘Incoming’ was released on the streaming service on August 23, 2024.
