‘one of the most horrific, sickening, frightening things I’ve watched’
Netflix’s latest true crime documentary has caused a stir online, with many viewers labelling it as the scariest thing they’ve ever seen.
Released on July 6, Girl in the Picture is directed by Skye Borgman, the same filmmaker behind the streaming giant’s 2017’s water-cooler hit Abducted in Plain Sight and like its predecessor has immediately grabbed viewers’ attention.
In it, we follow the story of a young mother who is tragically killed, with her young son suddenly kidnapped soon afterwards. Without giving too much away for those who are yet to watch it, these two events open up a mystery that steadily unfolds throughout the film’s 101 minute run time – keeping audiences on the edge of their seat throughout.

As per the film’s official synopsis, viewers are invited into a tale where “a woman found dying by a road leaves behind a son, a man claiming to be her husband — and a mystery that unfolds like a nightmare.”
However as with most true crime stories, the devil is in the detail and – without delving into too many of the film’s most chilling moments – this one seems to have left people shook.
In fact, that last descriptor couldn’t be more apt – especially if viewer reviews have anything to say about it.
After watching Girl in the Picture, disturbed fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts – and their nightmares, it seems.

“This Netflix doc “A Girl in the picture” might be the most f*cked thing I ever watched,” said one fan.
Meanwhile, others are commenting on the tragic handling of the story; specifically when it comes to the young mother at its centre who some feel was failed by authorities.
So many people failed the girl in "The Girl In The Picture" on Netflix… Her mom, her employer, coworkers, her babysitter… they all could have stepped up. If you ever feel like something is wrong with someone and they can't help themselves, SAY SOMETHING. ?

Netflix’s Girl in the Picture is one of the most devastating true crime cases I’ve ever heard.
With that in mind, there are endless cases we’ve never heard of and likely never will. Countless women are being abused and exploited in our world, especially BIPOC women.
