Created by the writing duo behind the hit shows Liar and The Missing, you have just under a month to binge the six-episode show before it’s taken off Netflix.
Netflix has announced that Angela Black, the very tense thriller series added to the service nearly two years ago, will be removed from the streaming giant’s platform next month.
For those not aware, the show revolves around a wife and mother-of-two named Angela (Joanne Froggatt – Downton Abbey, MobLand) who is in an abusive relationship with her husband, Olivier (Michiel Huisman – The Flight Attendant, The Haunting of Hill House).
One day, she is approached by a mysterious man, Ed (Samuel Adewunmi – Secret Invasion, You Don’t Know Me), who claims that Olivier hired him to kill her.
The pair wind up forming an unlikely relationship and try to turn the tables on Angela’s husband.
Created by Harry and Jack Williams – the writing duo behind hit shows like Liar, The Missing and The Tourist – Angela Black attracted millions of viewers when it premiered on ITV back in 2021.
It also earned solid reviews from critics. You can read a sample of some of those write-ups below:
Financial Times: “Given all the hints and deflections, a lot rides on the performance of Samuel Adewunmi as the mysteriously omniscient Ed. Fortunately, he’s terrific.”
Globe and Mail: “If your taste runs to dark, slow-burning British thrillers, there’s a good one to recommend. But be aware it has a serious theme, specifically domestic abuse and coercive control.”
The Guardian: “It is Froggatt’s performance that stops the story drifting into absurdity or becoming a trivialising, exploitative endeavour.”
Radio Times: “Take away the car chases and elaborate murder plots, and this would still be an accomplished and powerful drama, and one that will resonate.”
What She Said: “This follows the formula but Froggat’s nuanced performance raises the level of the WIP [women in peril] genre.”
Comprising six episodes – each around 45 minutes in length – Angela Black was added to Netflix in the UK and Ireland in June 2023.
That said, it will be removed from the streaming giant next month.
Users’ last day to watch Angela Black on the service will be Friday, 13 June.
