This new Netflix serial killer thriller series will be your new TV obsession

Don't miss this.

Alan Loughnane

It looks outrageously good.

It’s going to be arriving on October 13, and if the hype is anything to go by, it will be an unmissable series on a level of popularity similar to Making a Murderer and Narcos.

We’re talking about David Fincher’s new series killer thriller series Mindhunter.

If the name David Fincher isn’t familiar to you then we’ll jog your memory. He’s the director of films Se7en, Fight Club, Gone Girl and the opening two episodes of House of Cards, as well as many, many other great films.

Mindhunter is a 1979-set FBI series which follows two agents in the serial crime unit, Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany). They develop profiling techniques to catch serial killers and rapists.

If you’re looking for anything to give you an idea of the show, look no further than the teaser which was released a few months ago.

In it, Groff’s character Holden straps on a gun before going to interview a dangerous prisoner. When quizzed by his partner, Holden asks, “What’s the worst that could happen?”

“He’s gonna take the fucking thing away from you, he’s going to kill you with it, and then he’s going to have sex with your face,” his partner, McCallany says.

The series is based on the 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, and set during a time when serial killer was a new phrase, so don’t expect this to be easy viewing.

The series is directed by Fincher (Gone Girl, Zodiac), Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror, U Want Me 2 Kill Him?).

You can take a look at the full trailer below ahead of its release on Netflix on October 13.
