The subscription package will increase by 20 percent
Netflix is increasing its account subscription prices for accounts in the United Kingdom for the first time since 2017.
From Thursday 30 July, the subscription price for standard Netflix accounts will go up by £1 to £8.99, while the premium account will increase by £2 up to £11.99.
The current £5.99 monthly fee for the basic plan will remain the same.
For those unaware – and to be honest, we were – the basic plan only allows the account holder to watch Netflix on a single device in standard definition, while standard and premium allows more devices in high definition.
Premium allows the use of four accounts while standard allows two.
A Netflix spokesperson said: “We change our prices from time to time to reflect the significant investments we’ve made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product.
“We have more than 50 productions planned in the UK this year, including new seasons of Black Mirror, Sex Education and After Life.
“Our basic membership will remain at the same price, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content.”
The changes come into effect as of 30 July.
