Netflix have just acquired the rights to their biggest movie release yet

This is a massive, massive coup for the streaming service.

Netflix have bought the rights to The Irishman, the first collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro since Casino way back in 1995. The movie would see De Niro play Frank Sheeran, the alleged contract killer thought to be responsible for the murder of labour leader Jimmy Hoffa. The Irishman has been in the works since 2010, when Al Pacino and Joe Pesci were also slated to appear alongside De Niro. Seven years later, with filming to begin later in 2017, it is not clear whether Pesci and Pacino are still on board but the chance to see De Niro recover the magic of his eight previous Scorsese collaborations will prove a massive draw for film lovers. The Irishman will be adapted from the novel 'I Heard You Paint Houses' by Charles Brandt. The movie will mark the ninth collaboration between Scorsese and De Niro. They first worked together on Mean Streets in the 1970s, before going on to make Taxi Driver, New York New York, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, GoodFellas, Cape Fear and Casino together.
