A new photo of Kristen Stewart in character as Princess Diana in the upcoming film Spencer has been released by Neon, the US film production company.

Stewart, who is well known for playing Bella in The Twilight Saga, will play the role of the late Princess of Wales in the highly-anticipated biopic, directed by Pablo Larraín.

In the image taken of Stewart as Princess Diana, she captivates the audience by staring directly into the camera and showcasing her iconic timid and intriguing smile, something Diana was well-known for when being photographed.

The biographical film takes place in Sandringham in Norfolk and showcases the emotions experienced by the princess over the course of a single weekend in December 1991. This weekend is particularly significant, as, according to Neon’s synopsis, Diana “decides to leave her marriage to Prince Charles.”

The synopsis released by Neon reads: “December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different.”

Jack Farthing, who is well-known for his appearance in the BBC series Poldark, will play Prince Charles in the film.

Larraín’s forthcoming narrative Spencer has been filmed in Germany and is now being filmed in the UK, it has been revealed.

Larraín told Deadline: “Kristen is one of the great actors around today.

“To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her. The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see.”
