I am not out of touch, ok!?
So today is an important occasion – it is day that we add the first entry to May on the official 2017 Meme Calendar.
FYI, if you haven’t been keeping up, here’s what the 2017 Meme Calendar looks like so far:

So, our latest meme is this distorted image of Spongebob Squarepants. If you are cool and follow Weird Twitter and the right social media, you have most probably seen it start to flood your timeline in the last few days (If you are old and lame and only use Facebook, expect to encounter it in a few weeks).
me: has anyone updated the meme calendar?

And like, things from Spongebob becoming a meme isn’t new. There was the Freaking Out Mr Krabs meme.

But that’s easy to understand. It’s just simple observational humour mixed with the Millennial nostalgic warmth that comes from Spongebob. But the internet sure does love Spongebob.
Current level of getting the meme: 40%
So let’s break it down. This is just a weird picture of Spongebob, with nonsensical captions taking this form:
Question (in normal text)
Me: (reply, iN mIXtURe Of LoWEr aND UpPer cASE, often with spelling errors)
Me: Adulthood is exhausting, I just want my childhood back.

Ok, let’s go to Know Your Meme, the ultimate resource for people who are out of touch but want to still seem with it. From there, I learnt that it was from this Spongebob clip:
Which doesn’t explain much, tbh.
Current level of getting the meme: 45%
STOP USING IT. I DON’T GET IT.

I continue to investigate.
Is Twitter really prepared for a meme that defends itself by simply existing? I don't trust humanity can use this power wisely pic.twitter.com/zYMPh3BByZ

I GET IT (sort of). You can’t define the best memes. Dat Boi didn’t mean anything. Caveman Spongebob didn’t mean anything. It exists, purely because it exist, and to explain it would ruin the beauty out if it. I’ll never truly understand it, but maybe that’s the point.
Current level of getting the meme: 75% (and that will do)
Wait, by explaining it, have I just ruined it? Have I just destroyed it!? What, ahhhhhhh…..
