Here is Michelle Obama’s full ‘Carpool Karaoke’, and it’s brilliant, of course

The First Lady gets her freak on with Corden and Missy Elliot

Declan Cashin

In Michelle we trust.

James Corden’s sensational Carpool Karaoke just landed its most famous guest yet: the US First Lady (for six more months only), Michelle Obama.

She is the first non-performer to appear on Corden’s viral sensation, but she gets a pass because a) she’s literally the First Lady, and b) she filmed the segment to promote ‘Let Girls Learn‘, an initiative meant to raise awareness of and funds for some 62 million girls around the world who are deprived an education.

During their drive together around the White House grounds (for security reasons, natch), Michelle and James rock out to one of her favourite songs, Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours’, as well as whipping out the iconic dance moves to her pal Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’.

Michelle never makes any claims to be a singer, but she has decent enough pipes nonetheless.

The Karaoke partners then sing a new track ‘This Is for My Girls‘, a charity single performed by Kelly Clarkson, Chloe and Halle, Jadagrace, Lea Michele, Janelle Monáe, Kelly Rowland, Zendaya, and Missy Elliott.

And sure enough, Missy Elliott then pops up in the backseat of the car to deliver her rap verse during Michelle and James’ singalong.

Michelle then asks Missy to break out her hit ‘Get Ur Freak On’, which Michelle knows every word to, of course.

The First Lady also discusses her life in the White House – mostly, what she’s going to miss when they leave the residence next January.

“I’m going to miss the people,” she says. “To walk away from people you see every single day, that’ll be hard.”

Corden then cheekily asks if she’ll miss 24 hour room service, ringing down for a milkshake and a grilled cheese sandwich?

“You know, that’s nice,” she replies. “But the freedom that we’ll get in exchange for the privileges and the luxuries…after seven-and-a-half years, that’s enough luxuriating, I can make my own grilled cheese sandwich.”

Mrs Obama has dominated pop culture all this week: her Karaoke session comes days after Melania Trump, wife of US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, was accused of plagiarising one of the First Lady’s speeches at the Republican National Convention. That story has refused to die down, and has even since ramped up into a bizarre conspiracy theory.

If you just can’t get enough Carpool Karaoke today, then check out the one with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Even if you’re not a fan of the band, you will know all their music and absolutely love it.

After watching that, can we please just start referring to the outgoing US president as “Michelle Obama’s husband”? We reckon he’d be fine with that.
