Michael Owen was trolled by his fellow pundits when covering the Nations League game in Germany, just as his daughter necked with a stranger on national TV.
Gemma Owen, 19, entered the infamous Love Island villa on Monday and is already pegged as a frontrunner for the crown – although arguably because of her famous dad. Her father, 42, was trolled mere seconds into Channel 4’s coverage as presenter Jules Breach caught the former footy star off guard.
“Joining me hoping to see another famous win for England tonight in Munich, England and Arsenal midfield Jordan Nobbs, former England, West Ham and Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole and the father of Love Island’s Gemma Owen,” she said. “A big night for the Owens last night Michael, how are you feeling?”
“I came all the way to Germany to try and avoid all that back home, but it has been brought up straight away!” he replied. “But I am feeling alright. This is taking my mind off it so don’t bring it back up.”

Naturally, fans on social media had a bit of a field day following the awkward moment.
“Imagine Michael Owen’s come on as a pundit and the first thing they mention is love island how embarrassing,” quipped one fan, while another wrote, “Hello @themichaelowen pls sir. Collect your daughter from this show immediately.”
Another questioned: “19 years old, 12 horses and her dad is Michael Owen? And you want me to believe she’s here for love and not a plt deal and a blue tick?”
The football legend might want to buckle in. If Love Island knows how to do anything, it’s making parents switch off ITV every night.
