'Let's hope for Gemma Owen's sake that her old man hasn't yet backed his daughter to go all the way'
Former footballer Michael Owen has slammed the "inaccurate pile of rubbish" reported by outlets since his daughter entered the
Love Island villa.
Gemma Owen joined the cast of
Love Island this year, leading to more attention on her father as the world waits to see his reaction. However the 42-year-old has seemingly had enough, having branded
a Times article as "rubbish."
Entitled "The many own goals of Michael Owen, Love Island dad", journalist Martin Hemming unpacked some of Owen's blunders.
"Let's hope for Gemma Owen's sake that her old man hasn't yet backed his daughter to go all the way," he wrote, referencing Owen's prediction that Liverpool would "blow Real Madrid away." In reality, they lost 1-0.
Hemming also dubbed him the "Alan Partridge of ex-pros" while also comparing Owen to disgraced politician Matt Hancock.

The rest of the article continues to lay out various accusations and blunders dating back decades.
The article was ripped apart on Twitter, with people stating "journalism is dead" and wondering, "How on earth can people get paid to write shit like this?"
Still, Owen commented on the article himself and wrote: "Wow! What an inaccurate pile of rubbish. Pathetic."

Owen also commented on a piece from
The Telegraph entitled: "The phrase no football fan wants to hear from their TV: 'Joining me is Michael Owen'."
In reply, he said: "And the 'everybody abuse Michael Owen' theme of last week continues……."
