Mariah Carey said her heart is broken
Mariah Carey has tragically lost both her mother and sister.
The singer confirmed her mother Patricia and her sister Alison both died over the weekend.
They tragically died on the same day, the singer confirmed in a statement to People.
She issued a harrowing statement following the unthinkable losses.
The singer shared: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.
“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Mariah said she spent some time with her mother the week before she passed away.
The Hero singer said she will always be grateful for the time they spent together.
“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she added.
The singer thanked her fans for supporting her during this upsetting time but asked for them to respect her privacy as she grieves these mammoth losses.
“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.
The singer reportedly had a complicated relationship with both her mother and her sister.
In her 2020 memoir, she said she would always love her mother despite their complex relationship.
“Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s,” she wrote.
Mariah Carey and her sister Alison were estranged. She also said it is best for her not to have contact with her sister.
Particia and Alison’s causes of death are not known at this time.
