There's no denying that the most recent season of Luther was hampered by the absence of Ruth Wilson's character - the actress was busy filming her hit show The Affair - and in those episodes, Luther fans were told that Alice was 'killed' off-screen – drowned by the murderous Megan.
Well, it appears that DCI Luther has one less murder case to solve because Alice Morgan is alive. This being said, what will her scenes in the new season actually involve?Wilson was a guest on Empire's 300th podcast and she said that Alice "maybe" back in tandem with Luther or it "might be" a dream sequence. "I might get shot if I say anything. Maybe you can ask me later, I'll still answer with the same answers," Wilson added.
With regards to the new season of Luther, it's fair to assume that Alice's return might have something to do with the fact that "Luther must also face the ghosts of his own past."
The official synopsis states: "the moonless shadows of London give birth to a new nightmare, DCI John Luther must once again confront the depths of human depravity. As a series of monstrous killings becomes ever more audacious, Luther and new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday are confounded by a tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an unspeakable horror. But even as the case brings him closer than ever to the nature of true evil, a reluctant Luther must also face the ghosts of his own past. Striding back into the line of fire, he must choose who to protect… and who to sacrifice. Whatever his next move, it will have devastating consequences for those around him - and will change John Luther forever."
As for the other cast members that will be joining Elba and Morgan for the new episodes of Luther, there are plenty of additions, both old and new. Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley, and Patrick Malahide will be returning for the 4-part series as DSU Martin Schenk, Benny Silver, and George Cornelius respectively. Wunmi Mosaku (Damilola, Our Loved Boy) will be playing the new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday. Regarding the new episodes, Neil Cross said: "We missed John Luther. We missed some old friends. And we wanted to make the biggest, scariest, darkest, most thrilling series of Luther there’s ever been. So that’s what we’ve come back to do.”Luther returns to BBC One in late 2018. We can't wait!
