Love Island 2022: Ekin-Su and Davide crowned as winning couple during dramatic final

After two months in the villa, the winning couple has been revealed in Monday’s live final…

Davide and Ekin-Su have been crowned the winners of Love Island 2022.

The final saw the four remaining couples – Davide and Ekin-Su, Andrew and Tasha, Luca and Gemma, and Dami and Indiyah – enjoy a quick professional Salsa lesson before attending the Summer Ball, where they had a chance to put their new dancing skills to the test.

Dressed up in their finest and smartest garments, the eight islanders then took their seats before reading their declarations to each other, prompting plenty of tears and emotion.

In the end though, it was Davide and Ekin-Su who were voted the winners by the public. The duo had been the strong favourites to win this year’s series.

Tasha and Andrew were the first couple to be eliminated in the public vote, closely followed by Indiyah and Dami.

This then left Gemma Owen and Luca up against Davide and Ekin-Su. And it was the Italian Turkish duo who claimed the title of Love Island 2022 winners.

The couple presumable shared their £50,000 prize. In a unexpected twist, host Laura  did not ask the couple if they wanted to split or share the money, rather the credits quickly rolled on the TV as the finalist embraced the emotional winners.

This year’s series has been one of the most eventful and controversial in the show’s history, especially following Casa Amor.

In recent days, thousands of viewers have complained to Ofcom that some of the boys in the villa were bullying Tasha.

And earlier in the series, more than 3,000 people complained to the broadcast regulator over claims of misogyny from some of the boys.

Luca in particular came in for criticism, to the extent that his family had to post a statement on his social media apologising for his behaviour.

Domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid voiced concern surrounding the “misogynistic and controlling behaviour” by several of the men on the show, and were in discussion with ITV and Love Island producers about how the show could address these concerns.

Love Island Winter is set to return in January with ITV2 yet to release more details following the seasonal versional, filmed in South Africa, first debuting in January 2020. Love Island Winter has not returned to the franchise since the pandemic.
