Love Island viewers have said they are “sick to the stomach” after Gemma Owen’s new partner was revealed.

Gemma, the daughter of ex-footballer Michael Owen, is the youngest contestant on this year’s show at the age of 19, and in the first episode was coupled up with Liam Llelwyn by the public.

But when 27-year-old Davide entered the villa, the islanders were told he would be able to select who he will couple up with.

On Tuesday’s episode, Gemma and Davide were seen speaking about their attraction for each other, and by the end of the episode, they were officially coupled up.

For many viewers, the eight-year age gap between the two was a problem though.

One person labelled the age gap as “icky” but reminded people that there have been example of this on the show before.

Others said they felt “sick to my stomach.”

Another said: “19 and 27 is nasty @LoveIsland split them up fast fast.”

Some had already raised concerns about the age gap after the first episode of the new series on Monday.

When Gemma kissed Davide in a game of dares after she was ask which island she fancied the most, several took to Twitter to say they would be complaining to Ofcom.

After this, there were suggestions that the minimum age to appear on the show should be raised, an idea that was echoed by some after Tuesday’s episode.

But some weren’t bothered by Gemma’s age. One person wrote: “I’m ngl imo there’s nothing wrong with Gemma being 19 n on love island [sic]”
