Listen to A Tribe Called Quest’s seminal debut album to celebrate its silver anniversary

Can they still kick it?

Lia Nicholls

Like most band break-ups, the thought of getting back together is a minefield of complications.

When pioneering hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest disbanded in 1998, although it was littered with complexities, many fans were left bewildered as to the main reason why.

It’s not believed they threw punches at each other like other groups, and since then they’ve occasionally reunited for one-off performances. The last time was in 2013 when they performed with Kanye West’s Yeezus tour.

But they’re back for a special performance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to celebrate the silver anniversary of their 1990 debut album ‘People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm’ (which turned 25 this April).
