Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda announces solo album, releases two new songs

Going it alone.

Immersing himself in art as a way of dealing with his grief since the passing of Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda has today announced Post Traumatic, a solo album that offloads everything that was weighing his soul and spirit down following the death of his Linkin Park bandmate.

The multi-talented artist released the Post Traumatic EP back in January and was inspired by various creative avenues, including writing, recording, and painting. The EP was received so well that this new album is an extension of the powerful, stream-of-consciousness expression of unvarnished grief Shinoda needed to tackle.

Despite its title, the deeply personal album isn’t entirely about grief, though it does start there.

“It’s a journey out of grief and darkness, not into grief and darkness,” the Linkin Park co-founder explains.

The songs, though specific about Shinoda’s experience with loss, manage to be universally relatable, thanks to their honesty and heart.

“If people have been through something similar, I hope they feel less alone,” he says. “If they haven’t been through this, I hope they feel grateful.”

Along with the album announcement, Shinoda released two new tracks – “Crossing A Line” and “Nothing Makes Sense Anymore”. Listen to both songs here, and watch the video for “Crossing A Line” below:

Additionally, Shinoda will perform a handful of solo shows this summer, including Reading and Leeds Festival.

Post Traumatic is due out June 15th on Warner Bros. Records.
