Scooby Doo star Linda Cardellini says it’s ‘great’ Velma has finally come out as a lesbian

Linda Cardellini has voiced her joy at Velma being officially coming out as a lesbian in the Scooby Doo films. The actress portrayed the mystery-solving character in the 2002 live-action version of Scooby-Doo and its follow up film, Monsters Unleashed in 2004, both of which have gone on to achieve cult classic status. In the most reason Scooby Doo film, Velma is confirmed to be a lesbian, prompting delight from fans across the world. Cardellini was speaking to EW to discuss Velma's coming out while promoting the third and final season of her acclaimed Netflix show Dead to Me alongside co-star Christina Applegate. She said that she was delighted to see Velma out and proud. In October, clips from the new movie Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! were making the rounds on social media, as fans shared their delight that the popular character's sexuality had been cleared up. A scene in the film depicts the Mystery Inc. member as googly-eyed and speechless when encountering costume designer Coco Diablo. Even James Gunn, who wrote the early live-action films, and Tony Cervone, who served as supervising producer on the “Mystery Incorporated” series, have confirmed the character’s sexuality, but they were never able to make it official onscreen. During the 2020 Pride Month, Cervone wrote on Instagram, “I’ve said this before, but Velma in ‘Mystery Incorporated’ is not bi. She’s gay. "We always planned on Velma acting a little off and out of character when she was dating Shaggy because that relationship was wrong for her and she had unspoken difficulty with the why. "There are hints about the why in that episode with the mermaid, and if you follow the entire Marcie arc it seems as clear as we could make it 10 years ago. I don’t think Marcie and Velma had time to act on their feelings during the main timeline, but post reset, they are a couple. You can not like it, but this was our intention.” Related links:
