Netflix cancels epic new series just weeks after release in shock move

The show boasted a star-studded cast.

The show was released just a few weeks ago on 29 August and was created by Charlie Covell, who wrote The End of the F***ing World.

Taking place in a version of the modern world in which Ancient Greek gods are still worshipped, Kaos revolves around Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) - the cruel and stylish ruler of those gods.

While he has enjoyed his powerful position for a long time, the discovery of a wrinkle on his forehead causes him to grow paranoid that his fall is nigh.

"And he’s right to be worried, because Zeus’ onetime friend and now prisoner Prometheus (Stephen Dillane, Game of Thrones) is orchestrating a plot to bring him down," the plot synopsis reads.

"It involves three disparate humans — Riddy (Aurora Perrineau, Passengers), Ari (Leila Farzad, The Decameron), and Caneus (Misia Butler, The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself) — who are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world."

Also part of the cast of Kaos includes Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful), Cliff Curtis (The Meg), David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Janet McTeer (Ozark), Killian Scott (Love/Hate), Nabhaan Rizwan (Station Eleven) and Suzy Eddie Izzard (Hannibal).

The decision from Netflix not to go forward with the ambitious show will surprise many.

Not only did Kaos earn solid reviews - it currently holds a 76% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes - but it also spent four weeks in Netflix's global top 10 chart for English-language TV upon its release.
