Awkward ‘selfie kid’ outperforms Justin Timberlake in Super Bowl half-time show

People were talking as much about this guy as the shock win for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

Sunday night was all about the Philadelphia Eagles as they claimed the first Super Bowl title in their history with a stunning 41-33 victory over a New England Patriots side looking to win what would have been a record-equalling sixth Super Bowl victory.

Sunday night was also all about 13-year old Ryan McKenna, who managed to steal the show during Justin Timberlake’s half-time show by dancing with JT and seizing the opportunity to take a selfie while he was at it.

“I just went for it,” McKenna told ESPN about the cameo that is likely to make him something of a hero in school for the foreseeable future and indeed he did, with Timberlake shouting “Super Bowl selfies” into the mic during a 12-minute medley of hits that featured a tribute to Prince.

Not surprisingly, McKenna, or ‘Selfie Kid’ as he shall henceforth be known, quickly became a trending topic on social media, with many speculating that taking a selfie wasn’t the only thing he was doing with his phone during his brief moment in the spotlight.

Whether ‘Selfie Kid’ is a moniker that’s going to last in this day and age of dwindling attention spans remains to be seen, but this guy might as well live off his newfound fame for as long as he can.
