Imagine playing the same game of tag for thirty years.

Really, to make a great mainstream Hollywood comedy, you need two things.

A great cast, and a goofy premiss to hand them all. And judging by the first trailer, Tag appears to have both.

On the cast front, we’ve got Ed Helms from The Hangover, Jake Johnson from New Girl, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, Rashida Jones, Isla Fisher and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner. That’ll do.

As for the plot, here’s the official synopsis:

For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry: “You’re It!”

This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready.

And apparently it’s based on a true story. Admittedly, we’re not sure how ‘true’ it actually is – but it’s a perfect excuse for that stacked cast to dick about and be funny, so we’re on board.

Here’s the trailer:

Tag is in cinemas July 6.
