There were 780 pieces in Depp’s collection

Johnny Depp’s original artwork collection has sold out within hours of going on sale while also causing the website to crash temporarily.

The 59-year-old actor has been working on his Friends and Heroes collection for the last few months following his defamation case victory against ex-wife Amber Heard at their defamation trial in Fairfax, Virginia. All 780 pieces sold within hours of going on sale on the Castle Fine Art website, with the cheapest going for £3,950. As reported on the BBC, Depp banked a comfortable £3m.

Depp used photographic references of famous faces as inspiration for his collection, which features celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, and Al Pacino.

“I’ve always used art to express my feelings and to reflect on those who matter most to me, like my family, friends and people I admire,” he said, according to the Evening Standard. “My paintings surround my life, but I kept them to myself and limited myself. No one should ever limit themselves.”

On Instagram, Depp shared an image showcasing four pieces with him sitting in front of them, clad in his signature baggy shirt and blazer combo.

“NOW AT #CASTLEFINEART,” he wrote. The post amassed over 1.5m likes.

Fans shared their thoughts in the comments, with one person writing: “So beautiful. I am very happy that you decided to share your work. You are really talented.”

“You have incredible artistic talent in so many areas….blown away! Stunning work,” another wrote.

While Depp is set to start filming his first flick since the trial, Heard, 36, is still very much focused on that verdict. Just last week, the Aquaman actress filed to appeal the ruling that saw Depp awarded damages of £10.4m.

“We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment,” her legal team told Metro. “We are therefore appealing the verdict. While we realise today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice.”
