Depp was mobbed by fans in the north east

Johnny Depp was onstage in Gateshead on Thursday night as the actor made his first public appearance following the verdict in his court battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. In another appearance alongside Jeff Beck on the latest stage of his UK tour, the Pirates of the Caribbean star delighted fans at the Sage venue. He greeted more than 200 ecstatic fans outside the venue, who screamed and chanted his name before he was ushered into a car and rushed away by security. In a statement following his win in the high-profile defamation case, Depp had said he was looking forward to "a new chapter" in his life. Depp himself did not mention his court win whilst onstage, but Beck did, saying: "What a result!" He told the crowd: "I met this guy five years ago and we've never stopped laughing since. We actually made an album. I don't know how it happened. Another said it was "mind-boggling" that he was in Gateshead. It was already well-known that Depp was in the north-east though, despite his defamation trial with Heard concluding.
