The Keanu Renaissance continues

It has been confirmed that the fifth John Wick movie is coming, and it will shoot back-to-back with John Wick 4.

The announcement was made by Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer on an analyst call this week, according to Hollywood Reporter.

“We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theaters Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 and 5 back-to-back when Keanu becomes available early next year,” Feltheimer told the call.

John Wick 4 is due to be released on May 27, 2022. It was originally set for a year earlier, on May 21, 2021, but the coronavirus pandemic forced production to be delayed, with the release date therefore suffering the same fate.

The John Wick movies have been widely acknowledged as some of the greatest action films of the century so far. Keanu Reeves debuted as the hitman forced to come out of retirement in the first instalment in 2014. That was followed by Chapter 2 in 2017, and then Chapter 3: Parabellum last year.

Other stories set in the John Wick universe are also in the works. A spin-off entitled Ballerina focusing on a female assassin was announced in 2017, with Chloe Grace Moretz rumoured to take the lead role.

A TV series entitled The Continental has also been ordered for the Starz network, which will focus on the hotel for assassins at the centre of the movies. The Sopranos and The Wire writer Chris Collins is set to be showrunner, with Keanu Reeves on board as producer. CEO of Staz Jeffrey Hirsch has confirmed that the show will be a prequel to the movies.

There are also several other big Keanu Reeves films coming soon that we are looking forward to. Bill and Ted Face the Music is coming later this year, and Reeves is also currently shooting the fourth Matrix film in Berlin.
