The film was a box-office and commercial hit, with its soundtrack has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.

This included songs such as “Hopelessly Devoted To You,” “You’re the One that I Want,” “Summer Nights,” with the last two both reaching number one in the UK chart.

In the film, Newton-John plays Sandy whilst Travolta plays the role of greaser Danny Zuko.

The film became the highest-grossing musical film ever and the soundtrack was the second-best-selling album of the year in the US.

“Hopelessly Devoted To You” also garnered a nomination at the 1978 Oscars for Best Original Song.
