We cannot wait for this.
Jack Black and Paul Rudd have confirmed they will star in a reboot of the 1997 action thriller horror movie Anaconda.
The original focused around a filmmaker (played by Jennifer Lopez) and her crew (including Eric Stoltz, Ice Cube and Owen Wilson) travelling deep in the Amazon jungle looking for a forgotten tribe.
On their quest, they come across a snake hunter (Jon Voight) stranded on the riverbank who offers to help them find the tribe, though his secretive behaviour puts everyone on edge.
“They realise too late that he’s using them to find a legendary anaconda that’s worth a fortune – if they can catch it,” the plot synopsis reads.
While Anaconda was not well-received by critics upon release, it has gone on to be seen as something of a cult classic – with many arguing that the creature flick is “so-bad-it’s-good”.
The film was also a box-office hit which spawned several sequels.
Last summer, multiple outlets reported that Black and Rudd – who have appeared in several comedies together, such as Walk Hard – were in early talks to star in a more comedic “reimagining” of the 1997 movie.
It is said the new take on the franchise would focus on a group of friends who, while facing mid-life crises, decide to remake their favourite film from their youth.
As such, they travel to the rainforest but end up finding themselves in a battle for survival against giant snakes, natural disasters and violent criminals.
According to reports at the time, the two lead characters are a former director now making a living as a wedding videographer and a struggling actor who once had a stint on a cop show.
In a new and funny promo posted by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Black and Rudd confirmed their involvement in the Anaconda reboot, stating that it will slither into theatres at Christmas 2025.
It’s worth noting that this new take on Anaconda is set to be co-written and directed by Tom Gormican, best known for helming the similarly meta action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which starred Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal.
