The song has been dubbed a ‘masterpiece’
Jack Black has finally made it into Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first time in his career with his Mario Bros. song ‘Peaches’.
The anthem for the new fantasy adventure film, released this month, debuted at number 83 in the top 100, with fans calling the tune a “masterpiece”.
Black voices Bowser, the King of the Koopas who rules the Dark Lands in the film.
He wants to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom by marrying Princess Peach, who is voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy.
The tune is based on Black’s unrequited love for Peach, with the heartfelt ballad winning plenty of plaudits.
In it, he sings: “Peach, you’re so cool. And with my star we’re gonna rule. Peach, understand, I’m gonna love you ’til the very end.
“Princess Peach, at the end of the line, I’ll make you mine.”
Many praised the playful tune, with one person writing: “The thing about Jack Black is that he writes songs that are silly and fun and then sings them like he’s so deep in an emotional hole that he’ll never see the sun again and he has a voice that could define a generation.”
Another said: “That was a masterpiece. He rocks too hard because he’s not a mortal man.”
While a third marveled: “You really have to appreciate that Jack Black leaves a little in the tank so every new generation can experience the balls-out rock performances only he can deliver. Lots of hard rockers have nothing left to give after a decade or so. Not our Mr Black.”
