They're filming midgets! Amazing news.
As we've said before, In Bruges is the
finest dark comedy of the decade because very few films can capture the pathos, laughs, and madness that defined Martin McDonagh's brilliant debut feature.
Aside from the superb script and wonderful supporting cast - Ray Fiennes 'inanimate fucking object' speech was epic - a large reason why In Bruges works is the chemistry between its two leading actors, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.
Like a stroppy child that's throwing a tantrum, Farrell's character Ray is a comedic tour-de-force. When he's not insulting that ' bunch of fucking elephants,' getting excited about midgets or going mad on cocaine, there are heartbreaking moments of drama and despair as he struggles with unspeakable guilt. You can see why he won a Golden Globe for the role.
On the other side of this is Gleeson's character, Ken. World-weary, soulful, protective and slightly unhinged himself, there's a quiet strength and integrity to his amazing performance.
In an interview to promote his new film, the excellent Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, McDonagh was happy to talk with our own
Rory Cashin about plans to reunite the Irish actors.
"I want to get Colin and Brendan back together as soon as possible. I'm sort of working on something at the moment towards that end."
As you can see below, Farrell and Gleeson have also said that they'll jump at the chance to work with McDonagh again.
This isn't the first time that McDonagh has spoken about making a new film with Gleeson and Farrell. While promoting his play 'Hangmen' in London's West End, he told the press that any new film with Gleeson and Farrell might be set at the time of the Irish Civil War.
Speaking with the Press Association, he said: "there are a few things that I think could be exciting either filmically or dramatically about the Easter Rising, or the War of Independence or the Irish Civil War. In fact, I've just been kind of writing something about that."
When the Oscar-winning director was pushed on his ideal cast, he said: "at some point, it would be lovely to get Colin and Brendan back together."
An In Bruges reunion? Hell yes!
