Hugh Grant – ‘I think audiences basically hate actors and I understand that’

'I think people, audiences like to see actors mocked'
Hugh Grant has said he believes that audiences basically "hate" actors and enjoy watching them get mocked.
The Four Weddings and a Funeral and Paddington 2 actor made the comments to JOE in an interview for his new movie Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. The spy action comedy focuses on a team of spies (including Jason Statham and Aubrey Plaza) who must recruit a Hollywood star (Josh Hartnett) as part of their plan to retrieve a stolen high-tech device from an arms dealer (Grant's character)
Ahead of Operation Fortune's release on Prime Video this week, JOE spoke to Grant and Hartnett. With Harnett playing an actor in the film and Grant having so memorably played one in Paddington 2, we asked them if it is fun to deliver these heightened portrayals of actors.
In response, Hartnett said: "For me, it was just kind of a heightened version of perspectives of actors, perceptions of actors, I guess.
"I mean, I haven't come across anyone quite as crazy as Danny [his character] but there are people out there who are near, near enough.
"It's fun to be able to lampoon yourself. It's fun to be able to just do a comedy full stop."
Following Hartnett's comments, Grant added: "I think people, audiences like to see actors mocked, even gently as it is in this film.
"Because basically they hate us and I understand that."
