For the second year running every person nominated for an Oscar is white, the Internet reacts

And the Oscar (so white) goes to…

Yes, it’s the 88th Academy Awards, yes it remains the biggest in the showbiz calendar – and yet Hollywood is still whitewashed.

For the second year running, every actor nominated in the four acting categories is white, highlighting a severe lack of diversity in film – at every level.

2015 brought us the critically acclaimed Star Wars, Straight Outta Compton and Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba, but still not a single nod for a black, latina, asian or non-other white person.

The same hashtag as last year #OscarsSoWhite, started by Broadway Black and Nu Tribe editor April Reign, is trending again eclipsing the nominations themselves.

The ceremony (Feb, 28) will be hosted for the second time by Chris Rock, who wrote an essay in 2014 about the lack of diversity in Hollywood, which went viral. At the time he said ‘it is what is it’ and ‘I’ve accepted it’. Well, two years later, others haven’t accepted it. And rightly so, it’s definitely not ok.
