Here’s the bookies’ odds on who will take the Iron Throne at the end of Game of Thrones

Paul Moore

You know nothing but the bookies are rarely wrong. Fancy a  bet?

Cersei Lannister famously said that “when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”

The same thing can be said about your football accumulator because when a winning bet comes in, you’re happier than Oberyn in a brothel. On the other hand, if it’s spoiled by a last minute goal, you might get angrier than The Hound when he’s got no chicken.

With Season 8 currently in production, there are still so many questions that remain unanswered in Game of Thrones. What does The Night King actually want? Can Jon protect the North from the army of the dead? Will Jaime be accepted and trusted by House Stark? Will Daenerys find out that Jon’s her nephew?

Christ, is it 2019 yet?

With just six episodes left to wrap things up, there’s no denying that The Great War is upon us but the biggest question remains, who will end up on the Iron Throne when the show finishes?

In a previous interview, Kit Harington said that he feels Tyrion is the best candidate to rule. “It almost all started with Tyrion. He’s not the obvious choice – the obvious choice is Daenerys, possibly Jon Snow – but I almost view the world through Tyrion. Like, he seems to be separate from it. He seems to see it for what it is, a fantasy. He’s the person that’s the most ground and real. He also has the nous for it. I’ve always liked him as a character and the way Peter portrays him so brilliantly,” he said.

Elsewhere, Emilia Clarke has previously said that she’d like to see the Iron Throne being burned to the ground and the Seven Kingdoms receiving their independence.

William Hill have offered their latest odds and you might not be surprised to see that the King in the North is their favourite to rule.

Jon Snow: 9/4

Daenerys Targaryen: 4/1

Cersei Lannister: 7/1

The Night King: 8/1

Tyrion Lannister: 10/1

Bran Stark: 12/1

Gendry: 12/1

Samwell Tarly: 12/1

Sansa Stark: 12/1

Arya Stark: 14/1

Euron Greyjoy: 20/1

Jaime Lannister: 25/1

Varys: 50/1

Theon Greyjoy: 66/1

Ser Davos Seaworth: 80/1

Yara Greyjoy: 80/1

Brienne of Tarth: 100/1

Jaqen H’ghar: 100/1

Melisandre: 100/1

Gilly: 250/1

Regarding this market, the bookie has said: “the winner of this market will be whichever character rules the seven kingdoms of Westeros from the Iron Throne at the end of the TV series. Bets void if no ruler. Dead heat rules apply.”

In our opinion, Westeros having no ruler is a very good shout.

Then again, at 10/1, Tyrion looks like a strong outside bet. Thoughts?
