The Force is strong with this latest interview that Andy Serkis gave…and so are the spoilers. On that note, consider this to be your spoiler alert warning.

After meeting the pointy end of Kylo Ren’s lightsaber, plenty of Star Wars fans felt slightly cheated by The Last Jedi.

After being teased with the holographic image of Supreme Leader Snoke in The Force Awakens, fans were desperate to see if the leader of The First Order could rival The Emperor/Darth Sidious/ Palpatine in the evil stakes.

Sadly, Kylo Ren intervened as he sliced Snoke in half during that epic fight. His death was sudden, shocking, and it left the fans wanting more. Christ, how many theories did we all read regarding his backstory?

At the time, Rian Johnson explained his reasoning for killing the character.

“It would have stopped any of these scenes dead cold if he had stopped and given a 30-second speech about how he’s Darth Plagueis…It doesn’t matter to Rey. If he had done that, Rey would have blinked and said, ‘Who?’ And the scene would have gone on…and I’m not saying he’s Darth Plagueis!” he said.

Johnson also said that killing Snoke played an important role in the development of Kylo Ren’s character.

“When I was working on the character of Kylo, I came to a place where I thought the most interesting thing would be to knock the shaky foundation out from under him at the beginning of this movie…By the end of this film, he’s gone from being a wannabe Vader to someone who is standing on his own feet as a complex villain taking the reins. But then the question is: What place would Snoke have at the end of that?…That made me realise the most interesting thing would be to eliminate that dynamic between the ‘emperor’ and pupil so that all bets are off going into the next one. That also led to the possibility of this dramatic turn in the middle, which could also be a really powerful connection point between Kylo and Rey.”

In a recent interview with EW, Andy Serkis answered a few questions about his character and revealed that Snoke’s backstory looks set to be developed in other films. Of course, Rian Johnson is currently creating a new set of Star Wars films while the Game of Thrones showrunners, Benioff and Weiss, are also developing another set of films.

“We wanted him to have a great deal of mystery […] J.J. [Abrams] and I discussed it, and Rian [Johnson] and I did discuss backstories to him, where he came from. I’ve been asked to not shed anything, should we want to bring him back in any way whether [in a] prequel or whatever,” said Serkis.

Regarding a return to the role, the star of Lord of the Rings and Black Panther would fancy playing the leader of The First Order again.

“Yeah, I would love to think that there is room for him to come back. I think anything’s possible in a Star Wars movie. I’d be all up for it. I think there’s a lot more to be had from the character for sure, but I’m not in discussions with anybody at all about it.”

Somehow, we see Snoke returning to the galaxy that’s far, far away.
