Jessie Cave has revealed that a decision she initially made out of financial desperation has ended up earning her more money in a single year than she made across her entire acting career.
The actress, best known for playing Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films, launched an OnlyFans account in March 2025 after finding herself struggling to make ends meet and questioning whether she could continue working in the entertainment industry.
Rather than posting explicit material, Cave uses the subscription platform to share videos centred around her long hair, including clips of herself brushing and showing it off.Â
She has repeatedly stressed that her content is not sexual, despite OnlyFans being widely associated with adult entertainment.
Speaking to The Times, Cave explained that she had reached a particularly difficult point after another acting rejection left her feeling as though she had run out of options.
âI couldnât go and, say, work in a supermarket because I canât afford the childcare, and also I donât want people shouting Harry Potter spells at me as I work at Tesco,â she said.
âI could retrain but I canât afford to do a degree. I had a breakdown and I thought, thatâs it with acting, I give up. But also we have no money. It was a point of complete desperation.â
Cave originally viewed OnlyFans as something she would do temporarily, hoping it would give her enough financial breathing room to work out what she wanted to do next.
Instead, the income has become a major source of support for her family, with the actress saying it has âgenuinely saved our livesâ.
She revealed that she made around ÂŁ15,000 in a single day shortly after launching her account, and now says her earnings from the platform have overtaken everything she made from acting.
âI've earned more, easily, than my entire acting career within one year,â Cave told the newspaper.
Her subscribers pay $6 a month to access her content, while she also makes additional money through paid messages.
However, the decision has not been without its drawbacks. Cave previously claimed that she was excluded from a Harry Potter fan convention because of her OnlyFans account, despite insisting that she does not produce pornographic content.
Writing on Substack, she said organisers told her the event was a âfamily showâ and that OnlyFans was âaffiliated with pornâ.
Cave said she found the decision difficult to understand, particularly because other actors appearing at conventions have worked on productions containing sex scenes or nudity.
âIâm just playing with my hair!â she wrote.
