Hardman Jason Statham’s best ever role…as a gyrating silver go-go dancer

Oil be back...

Nooruddean Choudry

We’re more used to him beating up bad guys in high octane blockbusters like The Transporter and Wild Card, but action hero Jason Statham had slightly camper beginnings – as a music video go-go dancer…

The Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star appeared in not one but two mid-nineties dance videos, shaking what his mama gave him with absolute conviction.

In 1993 he appeared in the Shamen’s ‘Comin’ On’ video, wearing nothing but a pair of leopard skin undies and a healthy amount of baby oil. Laugh all you want but the man can move…like a big angry baby.

Then in 1994, he was the statuesque star of Erasure’s ‘Run to the Sun’, looking all mean and moody…or at least as mean and moody as anyone sprayed silver and wearing metallic hotpants can look.

We think the 47-year-old actor probably found the right calling in the end, but admire the confidence with which he went about his hip-swinging cameos. Shake it Jason!
