Golden Globes 2016 nominations are a rich feast for host Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais won't waste any time getting to work on his script for hosting duties of the 73rd Golden Globes.

The nominations have been unveiled and the list presents perfect candidates for his barbs - not to mention a number of hard-to-choose battles in a few categories.

Narcos and Game of Thrones will go head to head for Best Television series - drama along with Mr Robot and Outlander.

Idris Elba and fellow Brit stars David Oyelowo and Mark Rylance are up against Oscar Isaac and Patrick Wilson for for Best Actor in a Series/TV Movie.

Orange is the New Black, Casual, Mozart, Silicon Valley, Transparent and Veep have all received nods in the Comedy Series category while American Crime, American Horror Story: Hotel, Fargo, Flesh and Bone and Wolf Hall are up for TV Movie or Miniseries.

Masters of None star Aziz Ansari, Gael Garcia Bernal, Rob Lowe, Patrick Stewart and Jeffrey Tambor all get the nod for Best Actor TV Musical/Comedy.

Lady Gaga has been nominated for her first Golden Globe in Best Actress in a Series/TV Movie as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel - along with Sarah Hay, Felicity Huffman, Queen Latifah and Kirsten Dunst.

Best Supporting Actor TV nominees include Scotsman Alan Cumming, Londoner Damian Lewis, Christian Slater, Tobias Menzies and Ben Mendelsohn.
