George R R Martin gives an update on three Game of Thrones TV spin-offs

“They are still moving forward nicely”

Game of Thrones creator George R R  Martin has given an update on the in-development spin-offs from the TV version of his epic saga.

There are five different concepts being developed, and Martin says that three of them are “moving forward nicely”.

In a blog post on his official website, he let fans know where things stand at the moment.

“Speaking of television, don’t believe everything you read,” writes Martin.

“Internet reports are notoriously unreliable. We have had five different GAME OF THRONES successor shows in development (I mislike the term “spinoffs”) at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely.”

“The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer.   What are they about?  I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of FIRE & BLOOD and come up with your own theories.”

Fire & Blood is his most recent book, detailing a complete history of House Targaryen. It was originally intended to be published after the completion of the main novel series – but the final installment The Winds of Winter has faced what seems like an infinite amount of delays, the first volume of Fire & Blood was published in November last year (in a typically George R R Martin move, he realised he had too much material and it will now be a two-part history).
