George Clooney was admitted to hospital with "severe" pain after losing weight for an upcoming film. Clooney, who is starring and directing upcoming film The Midnight Sky, said that he had to stop working for a few weeks due to the effect his diet has on his health. He told the Mirror: "I think I was trying too hard to lose the weight quickly and probably wasn't taking care of myself." "It took a few weeks to get better and as a director, it's not so easy because you need energy. "We were out on this glacier in Finland, which made it a lot harder work. But it certainly helped with the character. This is bigger than anything I've done before and it was like herding cats to get it done. But, you know, it was fun." The Midnight Sky is an adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton's sci-fid 2016 novel, Good Morning, Midnight. It tells the story of astronomer Augustine Lofthouse, a scientist marooned on an Arctic observatory station who is trying to warn travellers about the state of the earth following an apocalyptic event. Clooney lost two stone for the role and was later diagnosed with pancreatitis, an illness he believes may have been triggered by his weight loss. The actor made headlines earlier this year when he and wife Amal pledged over $1 million to charities during the height of the Covid pandemic. The couple donated a portion of their fortune to several charities and foundations providing necessities and support to those worst affected by the outbreak. George Clooney is a member of the board of The Motion Picture and Television Fund, a group that has been providing temporary financial assistance for issues caused or complicated by Covid-19, including health insurance, mental health support, food, and other essentials. The other supports mentioned provide food, shelter, medical expenses, childcare facilities, and other essential needs for frontline workers and the vulnerable. The Midnight Sky is due for release in cinemas and Netflix on December 23.
