Game of Thrones star on one of the most sexually awkward scenes in the show’s history

Paul Moore

Morgan Freeman got a good laugh out of it.

Over the course of six seasons, Game of Thrones fans have become familiar with seeing all of the following; violent deaths, sexual deviancy, genital mutilation and the most worrying definition of ‘close families’ that’s humanly possible.

Let’s not get into every intimate detail of the whole Jamie and Cersei relationship or the fact that Viserys Targaryen once said to Daenerys “We go home with an army. With Khal Drogo’s army. I would let his whole tribe f**k you – all forty thousand men – and their horses too if that’s what it took.” Awkward.

Yep, we’ve all seen a lot of weird stuff but Game of Thrones actress Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) was a guest on the Graham Norton Show and she was happy to discuss one of her most embarrassing and sexually awkward scenes in the superb show.

Cast your mind back to the time when Theon Greyjoy was about to be reunited with his father, Balon Greyjoy, at Pyke on the Iron Islands.

In the scene, Theon begins to brag about his glorious return to Yara and how he’s going to sleep with her. Unbeknownst to him, Yara is his sister, but that doesn’t stop Theon from groping her all the way up to the castle while they’re on horseback.

What makes it worse is that Yara is fully aware that Theon is actually her brother.

Yeah, it’s all sorts of messed up.

This is what Theon looked like when he found out the truth.

Being a good sport, Gemma Whelan was more than happy to talk about this incredibly awkward and embarrassing moment, but to her immense credit, she managed to turn a pretty messed up story into a funny one.

Ah Game of Thrones, how we miss your absolutely f**ked up plots and families.

Somehow we don’t think that Whelan’s new show, Decline and Fall, will have moments like this.

Take a look.
