It’s a rare chance to catch the star-studded adaptation.
Our TV pick for tonight (Tuesday, 11 March) is the acclaimed 2011 stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic gothic novel Frankenstein, which was directed by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting).
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting) in the lead roles, the plot synopsis from Sky Arts reads:
“Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker.
“Met with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful Creature determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.”
Having earned rave reviews upon its premiere, the 2011 stage version of Frankenstein was unique because audiences witnessed Cumberbatch and Miller trade roles on different nights, alternating between Dr. Victor Frankenstein and his creation.
As such, Sky Arts has been airing two versions of the production over two weeks. Part one, which aired last week, saw Miller play the monster.
Part two, with Cumberbatch in the part of the creation, will be airing on TV tonight.
Also featuring Naomie Harris (Skyfall) as Frankenstein’s betrothed Elizabeth, you can watch National Theatre Live: Frankenstein Part 2 tonight on Sky Arts at 9pm.
It should also be available to stream after it airs via NOW Entertainment.
