Film fans rejoice because “your next favourite horror film” is on TV later

Paul Moore

Don’t miss it.

There’s a curious habit in Hollywood of studios releasing similar films within a brief period of time.

Deep Impact/Armageddon, Antz/A Bug’s Life, The Prestige/The Illusionist, Volcano/Dante’s Peak…you get the drift.

Bearing this in mind, horror fans will remember a period when it seemed like there was an absolute heap of home-invasion films being released in the cinema.

For example, Eden Lake, The Strangers, Them, Inside and the remake of Funny Games all terrified audiences, but one of the more memorable features from this subgenre is on TV tonight and it’s an absolute gem.

Released in 2013, You’re Next injected some new blood – and spilled loads – into the horror genre and Adam Wingard’s thrilling film is on TV tonight.

In case you haven’t seen it, the gory action kicks-off when a gang of masked, axe-wielding murderers descends upon a quiet family reunion.

Just when all seems lost, an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

In their review of the film, Entertainment Weekly absolutely nailed its appeal by saying: “Given its title, you can be forgiven for assuming that Adam Wingard’s home-invasion thriller will be just another blood-soaked body-count flick. But You’re Next is better than that. A lot better.”

Empire’s review said that “Wingard is on his way to becoming the next Sam Raimi, and You’re Next may well be your next favourite horror film.” High praise indeed.

While the premise might be cliched, the death sequences are original and very memorable – we’re not going to ruin things but one scene will stay with you for a long time.

Trust us, if you’re a horror fan that has grown a little bit apathetic and bored of the more ‘mainstream’ releases, You’re Next will do the trick.

Set record for 2:00am on Channel 4.
