Elliot Page has said his estranged dad has endorsed hate posts about him online.
The revelation comes amid a string of shocking claims in recent days as Page continues to promote his memoir, Pageboy, which was released on 6 June.
Pageboy covers Page's gender transition, his Hollywood fame and personal relationships with family and friends, and the abuse and hatred that's been levelling at him over his sexuality, gender and identity.
The Oscar-nominated actor came out as gay in 2014 and as a trans man in December 2020. He appeared on the cover of Time in March 2021, becoming the first openly trans man to do so, and became arguably the most famous trans man on the planet.
The Umbrella Academy star revealed his troubling relationship with his dad when he opening up about how right-wing author, Jordan Peterson, got banned from Twitter for making derogatory comments about his transition.
"When Jordan Peterson was let back on Twitter after he’d made a horrific tweet about me, he posted a video, just his head filling the frame," Page wrote.
"Staring menacingly into the camera, he said, ‘We’ll see who cancels who'."
Page said his dad, 'liked' the post.
The 36-year-old hasn't spoken to his dad, Dennis Page, for over five years.
Writing in his memoir, Page says he can't imagine the two will ever make up, given he expressed support for "those with massive platforms who have attacked and ridiculed me on a global scale."
Page's relationship with his mum, Martha, is also complicated.
Martha, who separated from Dennis when Page was young, wasn't supportive at first. But in the years since, Page said she had changed: "I think it’s really inspiring that she’s changed and become such an advocate and ally… it took her time to break out of the ideas she grew up with."
In a revelation from the book that surfaced over the weekend, Page told how an A-list actor once threatened to rape him to "convince him he wasn't gay".
The incident happened at a birthday party in Los Angeles in 2014 when Page was approached by the unnamed star, who allegedly said to him: "You aren’t gay. That doesn’t exist. You are just afraid of men."
The actor then threatened: "I’m going to f**k you to make you realise you aren’t gay."
Page then explained how the pair ran into each other at the gym a few days later, when the actor told him he "didn’t have a problem" with gay people, to which Page replied: "I think you might."
Page told People that he chose not to name the celebrity, but insisted several people were present at the party when the incident occurred, and that the person will know “it’s him” when he hears about the book.
Rather than wanting to expose the actor, Page said he included the incident in the book to highlight “the reality, the s*** we deal with and what gets sent to us constantly, particularly in environments that are predominantly cis and heterosexual”.
