Drake’s unlucky streak continues but the curse couldn’t stop Argentina

Drake lost $1 million in another big-money bet after he picked Argentina to beat France in normal time during Sunday’s World Cup final.

The Canadian rapper’s bet failed as the match finished level at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes at the Lusail Stadium in Doha.

Footage emerged on Instagram of Drake, wearing the kit of Serie A leaders Napoli, declaring his support for Argentina in the World Cup final.

“I’ll take Argentina, he’ll take France. That will be a vibe,” Drake said in the video with Swedish casino streamer Ishmael Swartz, also known as Roshtein.

The wager would have put $2.75million in Drake’s pocket had it been settled in normal time.

One commenter  on Instagram wrote: “That aged well.”

Another added: “Nooooo. You just lost a million. In the first kick live you did I said in the chat that I was going to be Argentine champion.”

Argentina was up 3-2 against France in the dying stages of extra time – after having a 2-0 lead early – before France’s Kylian Mbappé found the back of the net at the 118th minute, levelling the scores.

Argentina secured the win, and the country’s first World Cup since 1986, 4-2 during a penalty shootout.

Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, has placed a series of mammoth bets on sporting events in recent months.

He lost over $2 million betting on former UFC champion Israel Adesanya to defend his title against Alex Pereira last month.

And a previous football bet saw the rapper place $649,000 on an accumulator featuring Barcelona to win El Clasico against Real Madrid and Arsenal to beat Leeds. Arsenal recorded a 1-0 win over Leeds in the Premier League, but Barcelona were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid, MailOnline noted.

Drake also put $230,000 on Charles Leclerc to win the Spanish Grand Prix this year, only for the Ferrari driver to suffer engine failure.

The ‘Drake curse’ has been repeatedly cited, with numerous teams and athletes losing after coming into contact with him.

Canada’s national team suffered a group stage exit in Qatar without winning a match, shortly after posing with the performer.

Conor McGregor suffered defeat in the UFC after being pictured with Drake, while Anthony Joshua was stunned by Andy Ruiz Jr in their first heavyweight world title fight in 2019.

People believe the ‘Drake curse’ is a phenomenon that sees teams and athletes fail after they come into contact with him before big matches.
