The return of Rey

Star Wars sequel trilogy star Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in a new film from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, the yet-to-be-titled movie, will see Rey serving as a Jedi Master teaching a new generation of Jedis and fulfilling a destiny teased in the sequel trilogy, Comicbook reported.

The announcement comes as part of a quasi-trilogy of movies from high-profile directors, announced at Star Wars Celebration on Saturday.

James Mangold will reportedly tell a story set in the distant past, focussing on the earliest Jedi, while Dave Filoni will lead a project which will reportedly wrap up some of the stories that he has set up in the Mandalorian universe as well as his animated projects.

“I’ve always been attracted to the hero’s journey and the fact that the world needs many more heroes,” said Sharmeen, who added she’s been immersing herself in a Jedi Academy with a “powerful Jedi master”.

The Master was soon revealed to be Ridley.

“My heart is pounding,” she said, appearing on stage, IGN reported. “I’m very thrilled to be continuing this journey.”
