Coronation Street fans heartbroken as Aidan Connor’s final episode airs

Keeley Ryan

Coronation Street viewers were left heartbroken last night as they watched Aidan Connor’s last scenes.

The character, played by Shayne Ward, was seen staring into the distance as he sat at The Rover’s Return, surrounded by Johnny, Carla, Jenny and Maria.

The scene moved to his flat, where Aidan was seen breaking down as he sat on the sofa alone.

The devastating scene ended without showing Aidan’s death.

Before his death, Aidan said goodbye to his loved ones – and got to hold baby Susie for the first time.

He told Eva that the infant “was beautiful” as he went to the cottage to say goodbye.

He added:

“I’ve seen the baby. I even got to hold her. She’s beautiful.”

When Eva persisted in knowing why he was there, Aidan said it was to have their first dance – and to say goodbye.

She told Aidan she loved him, and was about to confess the truth about Susie’s real father when he got a phone call.

While Eva begged him to stay, he returned to Weatherfield to go to his dad’s leaving party.

Before he left, he told Eva:

“I love you too.”

Eva later told Torah she thought that Aidan might want to get back together, which led to her confronting Aidan in the street.

But Aidan appeared to hint to Toyah that he knew the truth, as he told her that her “secret was safe” with him.

As he returned to The Rover’s Return, Aidan pretended that he had left to go get a kebab as he saw his sister, Kate, for the last time.

He explained to Maria that he had purposefully given Liam his expensive watch, before sitting down with the family for a drink.

The scene moved to Eva, back in the cottage, as she put on the former couple’s favourite song – and found Aidan had left her engagement ring.

Eva tried to leave him a voicemail message, completely unaware of what was going on.

As he sat with his family back at The Rover’s Return, Aidan was clearly distracted – gazing off into the distance as his family surrounded him.

Viewers of the long-running soap were devastating after watching the scenes.
